KEY LARGO FISHING REPORT

                                                     Key Largo Backcountry Fishing 4/17/11

Got out in the backcountry this week in the eastern bay off Key Largo and found fish in every spot we hit. Water was glassy with no wind in the morning but by 10:30 we got a little wind, perfect day. Lots of sea trout over the shallow grass beds and they are mixed in with jacks and ladyfish. Many of the trout were big female fish over 20".Closer to the bank we had a mixed bag

including snook, redfish, sheepshead, jacks, and mangrove snapper. Closer to home Tarpon action is happening and more fish should show up with this full moon. Things are are looking good in the backcountry good variety, lots of action and should only get better in next few months.

Inshore reef fishing is holding up as well.1/2 day trips are working with snappers, hogfish, yellowtails to name a few.Grouper still closed but will reopen May 1st. Offshore the gulf stream is still hanging close off Key Largo with just a short ride out to get into the action. Winter is gone (down here anyway) and its a great time of year with lots of angling options in the Keys.
